DVD Notes (about the interface)
This text is designed to mimic the interface of a typical DVD. In that respect, this text has a menu designed like a TV/DVD remote control and which opens in one browser window. The options in the remote control will change according to what section of the "DVD" you are viewing. [2]

In menus and submenusall located in your remote controlyou will find links to the text's features, which when clicked will open in the main screen/window. Do NOT close the remote navigation menu or you will be spanked. If you do accidentally close it (don't worry; we won't actually spank you), you can retrieve the menu window by going back to the index page and clicking on the "remote" link at the top. Below is a sample of what your dual-screen interface might look like. (Arrange the windows on screen to your advantage; ideally, you might use two monitors.)

[2] We understand how this steps web design back several years. See, e.g., Kairos' Fall 1997 issue, which also employs a remote navigation interface. Sure it was cool in 1997. Now, as one of the authors' web-design-guru friends asked, "Why the hell would you want to do that?!" It's to replicate the DVD interface, we promise. If we were schmoozy enough to know Flash better, perhaps the dual-window navigation could have been avoided in favor of a wowzy design. But, for the time being, HTML it is.
