Herein lies the paradox of MOO. The MOO can be chaotic; chaos can be
controlled by the MOO. People can run rampant and darn near anarchic inMOO.
People
can use the MOO to control their environment. For this reason, MOOs can
be adapted for a wide variety of pedagogical philosophies. We truly
must examine our own pedagogical underpinnings in order to adapt MOO
for our purposes. Even the most fundamentally "anarchic" teachers must
also consider that structural guidelines, a focus on learning tasks, and
an understanding of particular MOO communities, are helpful, if not
downright necessary, if we want to help people learn to MOO, or use
the MOO for work or study. On the other hand, even the most
"panoptic" teachers, those who want to watch every move their students
make, either for simple control, or further study, can create the
type of environment that will suit their purposes.
