Instructions for the hypertext draw upon material from the unconscious, such as the use of dreams and journal entries in the very autobiographical Carrie Fisher novel Postcards from the Edge and the use of storytelling in the novel Generation X by Douglas Coupland. The students can access this unconscious material in whatever way they feel comfortable; they are given handouts on many possible forms:

• journaling
• dream interpretation
• non-dominant hand writing
• dialogueing

and

• unsent letters.
