Interestingly, the students' recognition of the social
constructedness of subjectivity
does not lead them to easily or immediately eschew their desire
to presuppose and
then communicate what they call the "true self." Even with the
quotation marks intact,
students, perhaps having
internalized the above
expressivist perspective, are very attached to the
idea that there is an articulatable "true self."
