Writing Technology:
Studies on the
Materiality of Literacy
Remember These?
At $900, this rare Mont Blanc 35 masterpiece from the 1920s costs almost
as much today as a brand new Apple PowerBook 190/66 4/500 (not taking
into account the additional memory needed to run more complex
word processing programs such as Microsoft Word 6.0, which, as a Mac owner,
you probably wouldn't use anyway).
We'll have come a long way toward resolving the important question of
access when a PowerBook with 36 MB of RAM costs the same as a Parker
pen/pencil gift set. Still, the question of the material change in
writing remains.
