The Dialogue Continues

I can certainly see that MOOs can really work well for group work, but much of my class is devoted to teaching students how to write essays and research papers. I really can't see how the MOO would help teach those skills. It may help increase student fluency and it certainly gives them practice writing out their ideas, but I just don't see how I would teach research skills in a MOO.
Believe it or not, you can teach research skills at a MOO. You can use a number of prebuilt objects designed for research at a MOO. I created a "Web Slate" and "Gopher Slate" for my students. These provide windows to the World Wide Web and Gopher directly accessible from the MOO. If you like, later on we could take a trip to my classroom at Diversity University MOO. You could take a look at all the teaching tools there.
