What To Do?

So, my advice to future OWL creators is not to expect any quick miracles. It will take time and, like most university processes, bureaucracy. Get all possible support from your department chair and faculty members, try to involve everyone that you can, and make friends with university computing services. Also, explore communication possibilities, such as newsgroups, MOOs, e-mail, and discussion lists; they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Probably the greatest piece of advice I can give is to be flexible with your web page design and content. Be ready to change what you may consider your final product. After all, there is no final product on the Internet, and web authors must learn that they can neither resist nor control the dynamics of web pages. However, after dealing with resistence to my ideas and my own difficulty in relinguishing full control over my project, I hope that computer services and web page developers can agree that we have found a shared space that is a useful tool for students.
